Olomouc’s university from its beginnings to the present, captured in the transformations of time, turbulent historic moments, and forming an integral part of historically important Baroque Olomouc. This is how Palacký University Olomouc is represented upon a long, 450-year timeline, captured in a book titled Olomouc University 1573–2023. UP Press is preparing the book in cooperation with renowned Olomouc historians and other authors.
The publication is intended primarily for international readers, and will be published in English and German. A Czech edition is also in the works, with a smaller press run. The book offers up a fresh, modern design, full of photographs and narrative texts to satisfy everyone – from the general reading public to serious historians. The history of the university is described in the regional, national, and international contexts, and can help one not only understand the importance of the university for Olomouc, but also for the Central European region as a whole. Texts by historians Pavel Urbášek and Jiří Fiala are supplemented by specialised chapters by Leoš Mlčák and Tomáš Parma and an introductory essay by writer Michal Sýkora. The book is designed by graphic artist Radim Měsíc.
